Dallas Shine

Love seeing Dallas getting some shine! Dope interview with Robert “Sput” Searight on The Cipher.  From playing with Kirk Franklin, Snoop Dogg and Snarky Puppy to being kidnapped in Dubai, Sput has quite the story.

Peace to Shawn Setaro and the crew at The Cipher.  Setaro conducts in-depth interviews, that pull out the detailed story from the most influential figures in hiphop.  Josh Kross at Krosstown Studio edits the show well, with audio footnotes if you will, that give additional information to help you understand the story better.  All of these variables add up to a hiphop show with nice flow.

I’m fascinated with hiphop interviews.  For whatever reason, connection maybe, it’s interesting to hear people’s journeys and stories.  Through the trials and tribulations, synchronicities, the triumphs, its some sort of human hiphop connection experience that feels good.

Great to see Dallas musicians getting some national shine.  It’s dope to know we have so many talented musicians in DFW.  You can see many of these musicians on a weekly basis performing in Dallas.  R.C. Williams, music director for Erykah Badu’s band, runs a jam session at the Prophet Bar for 11 years running on Wednesday nights.  R.C. and his band The Gritz, also perform at Sandaga 813 most Sunday nights.  These are just some of the more well known musicians, there is a plethora of talent in DFW you have not even heard of….Yet!

“Thanks for giving Dallas love too man, that’s incredible you know” -Robert ‘Sput’ Searight

Also check out a dope article Setaro wrote for the Observer entitled ‘The City You Love to Hate Makes Every Song You Love’.  Kinda makes me wish I went to Arts Magnet haha!
